Doctoresthe Medical Tourism

Every step from the first consultation to the return flight: who does what, which documents are needed and how much time to set aside.

Why is planning part of the treatment?

For a patient coming from abroad, the process does not begin at the hospital door and end at the exit. The gap between the flight time and the procedure time, the distance between the accommodation and the facility, whether the check-up appointment falls before the return date — all of these affect how the medical process unfolds.

Planning is therefore not a logistical detail to consider after the treatment decision; it is a framework that must be built together with that decision.

What happens, stage by stage?

The flow below outlines a typical health tourism process. Timings vary by specialty and by the patient's condition.

  • 1 · Preliminary assessment

Your complaint and, where available, your imaging and test results are collected. The relevant specialty and the suitable contracted facility are determined.

  • 2 · Physician consultation

Your consultation with the physician of the contracted health facility is scheduled and supported by interpreting. The treatment plan is created by the physician.

  • 3 · Schedule and travel

Flights, accommodation, airport welcome and city transfers are planned around the treatment schedule. If a companion is travelling, the plan is built accordingly.

  • 4 · Treatment and follow-up

The procedure is performed at the facility; check-up appointments and the return transfer are planned. Follow-up consultations are organised after you return home.

How much time should you set aside?

The duration depends entirely on the specialty and the plan set by the physician; there is no single answer. In dental treatment, the number of sessions and the waiting time between them are decisive. In surgical procedures, the post-discharge check-up affects the return date. In hair transplantation, a washing day is planned in addition to the procedure day.

The right approach is not to finalise travel tickets before the physician consultation and before the treatment plan is clear. The physician sets the plan first; the schedule is written around it.
